Melanie Douglas

Melanie Douglas, Coordinated School Health Coordinator, is responsible for ensuring all school system health initiatives are evidenced-based interventions which build and sustain a healthy school environment for all students, faculty, and staff. She completed her undergraduate work at Union University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and received her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of TN at Martin. In addition, Melanie completed 30 hours above masters in Administration and Supervision from Freed-Hardeman University.

Melanie has been in education for 27 years. Thirteen of those years she taught 3rd and 5th grades at Caywood Elementary School. She has also taught health and wellness classes to students in grades K-8. For the last 13 years, Melanie has taken on the role of Coordinated School Health Coordinator. She works closely with students, parents, school staff, and community partners to connect health with learning as well as to encourage Lexington City School students to lead healthy lifestyles. In this position, she has received several grants to assist in the endeavor. As CSH Coordinator, she assists and plans professional development training for staff, works closely with school nurses to perform student health screenings, oversees the Student Backpack Food Program, organizes system-wide events, promotes staff wellness, as well as a number of other tasks. Knowing that healthy students are better learners, Melanie strives to build close relationships with students and families, while meeting the needs of the whole child as they attend school.
