Snack & Party Treats

CAYWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SNACK & PARTY TREATS POLICY
2010-2011

Good health fosters student attendance and achievement.  As you know, we have recently completed BMI’s and health screenings on all our students.  Based on the data from these, we feel that it is necessary that we abide by healthier guidelines.  Our cafeteria is under stringent state and federal nutritional guidelines, and we are in the process of meeting the requirement to qualify for the US Healthy School Challenge.  Earlier this year, a note was sent home encouraging parents to send healthy snacks and party treats to school that were low in fat, sugar, and salt.

In the best interest for the health of our students, the following snacks and party treats may be brought to school:

  • Pre-wrapped 100 calorie snacks
  • Fruits and vegetables (fresh, frozen, canned, dried)
  • Cheese
  • Nuts
  • Cereals
  • Low-Fat Popcorn
  • Fig Newtons
  • Animal Crackers
  • Graham Crackers
  • Crackers
  • Reduced Fat/ Baked Chips and Pretzels
  • Reduced Fat Muffins
  • Low-Fat Pudding
  • Low-Fat Breakfast Bars and Granola Bars
  • Trail Mix
  • Yogurt
  • 100% Fruit and Vegetable Juice (for parties)
  • Low-Fat Milk (for parties)
  • Non-carbonated, low-calorie beverages, such as flavored water (for parties)

The following items do not meet the CSH guidelines.  We appreciate you helping us become a healthy school.

  • Candy
  • Cupcakes

Thank you for helping us to create a healthier environment for our children.
