Asbestos Public Notice 2017-18

Public Notice Annual Asbestos Notification

Pursuant to the Federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) notice is hereby given that the Lexington City School System surveyed its buildings for the presence of asbestos containing building materials. The Asbestos Management Plan was created in 1988 in accordance with the requirements of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1986, Public Law 99-519, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Rule: Asbestos Containing Material in Schools, 40 CFR Part 763 . The plan is updated every 3 years. The original plan and current reports are available for inspection at the Superintendent’s office (99 Monroe Ave) and the Maintenance Department’s Office at Caywood Elementary School (162 Monroe Ave).

Caywood Elementary School: Asbestos containing materials from the original school structure are located in 2 areas: the breezeway (transite board ceiling tiles) and in a fire-rated door. Building projects in 1994 and 1999 did not include asbestos related materials per exclusion letters filed by the architects to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Lexington Middle School: The Lexington Middle School building project specifications used no asbestos containing materials per exclusion letters filed by the architects to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The school opened in May 2006.
