Standard Dress Attire Policy
2009-2010

Shirts– Onlygolf-type shirts (no zippers) and button-front shirts will be permitted. Onlythe top 2 buttons may be unbuttoned.
- Must have a collar.
- Must be solid colored (red, black, white, navy blue, and pink (light pink or hot pink).
- Must be the appropriate size.
- May be long or short sleeves.
- Boys’ shirts must be tucked in and remain tucked in at all times.(This does not apply for grades K-2)
- K-8 girls are not required to tuck in shirts. Shirts must be below the waist and skin not exposed when arms are raised. Shirt length must not extend beyond the hips. Shirts worn untucked must be fitted.
- There are to be no logos, writing, or pictures on the shirt other than the official school mascot, school logos, or emblems which have been approved by principal or Director of Schools.
- Long or short sleeve white tee shirts may be worn underneath the approved golf or button-front shirt.
- Tops and bottoms must be contrasting colors. No same color combinations.
Sweatshirts/Sweaters-must be solid colors (to be determined by the parentsurvey). Pull-over sweaters or sweatervests may be v-neck or crew neck but must be banded at the waist with nobuttons or zippers. These may be inapproved colors only and must be worn over the approved shirts. No brand names or wordings arepermitted.
- Sweaters, sweatshirts, and vests should hang at the waist/belt line.
- Hooded sweatshirts/sweaters of any kind may not be worn.
- Sweaters or sweatshirts are not to be tied over the shoulders or around the waist.
- Mock turtlenecks or turtlenecks in approved colors may be worn under the approved shirt. These must be solid color, the same color of the approved shirt, and can not be worn by themselves only.
- Short or long sleeve turtlenecks may be worn under the approved short sleeve shirts.
- There are to be no logos, writing, or pictures on the shirt other than the official school mascot, school logos, or emblems which have been approved by principal or Director of Schools.
Pants– Only khaki-colored, black, or navy blue twill pants (hemmed or cuffed) of a cottonor blend will be permitted.
- Pants must be worn and fitted at the waist line.
- Low-slung, baggy-seat, baggy-legged, or bell-bottom pants are not permitted.
- K-2 – Denim will be permitted.
- Grades 3-8 – Denim will not be permitted. Jeans or jean-type khaki pants are not permitted.
- No rivets on pants.
- Cargo pants, carpenter pants, or overalls are not permitted.
- Pant legs can not be rolled up at any time.
- There are to be no holes, rips, tears or markings. Any patches on pants must be the same color as the pants
Shorts – Only khaki-colored, black, or navy bluetwill shorts of a cotton or blend will be permitted.
- K-2 – Shorts of appropriate length are permitted in approved school colors and denim.
- Grades 3-5 – Shorts may be worn, but must come to the knee and be of the approved colors and material that is required for pants.
- Grades 6-8 – No shorts are permitted.
Belts–
- Must be worn through the belt loops and buckled.
- The belt buckle must be a plain buckle and shall not exceed 1 ½ inches in width.
- The belt must be brown or black, and not have any writing or logos.
- All boys must wear belts.
- Girls must wear belts when clothing is designed with belt loops.
- Grades PreK-2 - Belts are not required.
Skirts/Dresses/Capris– Allskirts/dresses/capris must be solid, khaki-colored, black, or navy blue, and betwill cotton or blend.
- Skirts/dresses must go to the knee or longer.
- There must be no slits in skirts above the knee.
- Capri-length (below the knee) pants will be permitted.
- Leggings or tights in any of the approved colors may be worn with skirts/dresses.
Footwear– Shoes are to be worn at all times.
- Dress/casual shoes, sandals, or athletic shoes are to be worn and must be properly fastened.
- Flip flops and boots are not to be worn.
- Shoes with heels taller than 1 ½ inches are not permitted.
Coats/Jackets–
- All outer wear is to be removed and put in the locker or designated area during the school day.
- Large, oversized coats/jackets or trench coats are not permitted within the school building.
- Coats and jackets must not have drug, alcohol, gang related, gambling, or other such messages or pictures.
Headwear –
- No headwear is to be worn in the school building.
- No sweatbands are to be worn in the school building during the school day as defined by the principal.
- Appropriate headwear (barrettes, headbands, ponytail holders, and bows) is permitted.
Approved Colors: red, black, white, navy blue, and pink (light pink or hot pink)
Expectations and consequences governing the Standard Dress Attireas well as guidelines for designated “schoolspirit days” will be addressed in the Board of Education’s approval of the2009-10 Student Handbook. The existingdress code for professional staff will also be reviewed and revised as neededin the Board of Education’s approval of the 2009-10 Professional Handbook.
Any additions to the approved standard dress attire policy willbe consistent with existing Board of Education policies and school safetyprocedures.
